#2 Like wife Beyonce Knowles, the year 2009 would be more than kind to rapper Jay-Z. Despite stiff competition from Lil Wayne and Drake, Jay-Z reigned supreme in Hip-Hop. It began when the the Brooklyn Rapper unleashed “D.O.A(Death of Autotune)” from the “Blueprint 3″, the murderous rap track caused quite a stir on the blogosphere and within the Rap community. Then there was “Run This Town” with good friends Rihanna and Kanye West. The track was a crossover success for Carter. Not to long after Jay-Z would have a third hit on his hands-the New York anthem “Empire State of Mind”. Together with Jay-Z’s flow and Alicia Key’s powerful hook on the chorus, the song skyrocketed to #1 with a 5 week run.
Music legend Janet Jackson will open the 2009 AMA’s in a big way come November 22nd. The Official AMA’s revealed that Janet will be performing a show stopping 8 minute melody of her biggest career hits. Damita Jo and fans are heavily anticipating the “Number Ones” release which is due in stores November 17th. In September, Janet Jackson set the stage ablaze with a high energy and emotional VMA Tribute to late brother Michael Jackson.
Singer Whitney Houston
If that news wasn’t enough to get you excited, Music diva veteran Whitney Houston will the grace the grand AMA stage as well. Houston solidified her musical comeback earlier this year with the critically and fan acclaimed album “I Look to You”. The album debuted at 1 on Billboard with over 300,000 copies sold.
Other big names slated to hit the stage include the unpredictable Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Greenday, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and The Black Eyed Peas.
With a huge all star line up announced, this awards show will go down in the records books as one to remember.The 2009 American Music Awards will officially kick off on November 22nd at the Nokia theater in Los Angles, California.
