Sunday at the 2009 VMA’s, viewers all over the globe were treated to a electrifying Micheal Jackson Tribute, 25 “Single Ladies” dancing, an awe inspiring circus performance , and who could forget the death defying performance by one of the biggest music names in ’09?

Highlights: Janet opened the show in top form- commanding the stage as only she could. Ms. Jackson proved that age “Ain’t nothin but a numba”. The feisty Pink treated us with a nail-biting performance of the somber “Sober”, and though all I could think about was her not falling-I’m glad she was able to nail it. Not to mention she was able to stay on key-now that’s talent. Notable mentions go to Beyonce and Lady Gaga, who brought the ‘wow’ factor with their respected performances.

Negatives: The ending of Jay-Z and Alicia‘s “Empire State of Mind” was incredibly awkward. That moment was enough to give anyone second-hand embarrassment. Lil Mama’s crashed the set abruptly leaving Alicia and Jay-Z and everyone else in the audience confused. You can’t help but feel sorry for the backlash she’s receiving on Twitter-#lilmamais is one of the most popular trending topics at the moment.

The talk of Radio Music City Hall went to the ever controversial Kanye West. Just as America’s Sweetheart Taylor Swift went to grab her award for Best Female Video. West interrupted what was supposed to be a special moment for Swift. I thought the comments made toward Taylor were in poor taste. Even if Beyonce didn’t win that particular category. I doubt she was upset, seeing as shes racked up several moonmen in the past.

Speaking of Beyonce- who in the end took home Video of the Year- showed what a generous human being she is, giving Taylor Swift her moment to shine in the spotlight.

The final moments of The 2009 VMA’s ended with Micheal Jackson’s trailer for the anticipated documentary “This is It”. Fans of Jackson will get to see some never before seen footage of what was supposed to be his final tour.

Overall, the 2009 VMA’s redeemed itself after several years of disappointing shows. There was controversy and memorable performances-making an overall exciting show. The women of the VMAS proved just why Sunday was Ladies Night.
