Beyonce and Jay-Z were spotted in New York City over the weekend. In other reports it’s been announced that Beyonce has canceled her tour in Malaysia.
Beyoncé Knowles’ Kuala Lumpur concert scheduled to take place November 1 has been canceled following protests by local Muslim groups.Kuala Lumpur-based concert promoter Pineapple Concerts issued a statement Friday announcing the cancellation — without giving a reason — of what would have been the Beyoncé’s Malaysian debut performance.
A ministry official says Pineapple had not applied for a licence to hold the concert. Industry sources tell Billboard magazine that Pineapple did not apply for a license because Beyoncé, 26, refused to comply with the dress code.According to the rules introduced by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage in 2005 there must be no hugging or kissing audience members or fellow artists, no jumping or shouting, no throwing objects onstage or at the audience and no foul language.Clothes cannot have obscene or drug-related images or messages, and female performers must show no skin from the tops of their chests to their knees.Many Muslim groups, including the 10,000-member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students, had urged the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage to cancel Beyoncé’s concert.Singer Gwen Stefani was also forced to tone down her act for her Aug. 21 sold-out show at Putra Stadium after the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students said her “revealing” outfits clashed with Islamic values.
Stefani compromised by wearing jackets over her tops and leotards underneath her skirts and dresses.In a pre-concert press conference, Stefani said she made a “major sacrifice” in complying with the dress-code guidelines, and added that it was the first time in her 20-year career she had been criticized for the way she dressed.
