Reports have come in that the legendary Lena Horne has died at 92-years-old. The actress and singer passed away at the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. For several decades, the Brooklyn native has starred in several well-known musicals including Broadway Rhythm, Till the Clouds Roll By, and The Wiz.

Not only was Lena Horne known for her acting chops, she was also an activist for Civil Rights. Because of her contributions, Horne has helped break color barriers in Hollywood and pave the way for several African American actresses who have come after her. Lena Horne leaves behind her daughter Gail Lumet Buckley.

While backstreet abortions aren’t uncommon in Africa, there may be stricter laws in the future that may prohibit these risky practices.

Passionate church groups in Kenya are fighting to make backstreet abortions illegal. The churches feel there are more reasonable choices that can be made for the women rather than resorting to such method.

Oliver Kisaka, from the National Council of Churches in Kenya, said:

“The women are not the weakest in the equation, the unborn child is. The unborn child is the weakest in that equation. The churches are not against the women.

“Why do women in this country, or elsewhere, want to go ahead and get pregnant and then procure abortions? Why are we not realizing that the way you can avoid going through the whole problem of abortion by just not getting pregnant?”

Backstreet abortions generally include the use metal wires and knitting needles. Many women have died. The fetuses are found in garbage-filled streams in neighborhoods. Also, in 2004 guards found 15 fetuses in a bag under a bridge in Nairobi.

You may (or may not) remember her from the CW reality TV show “Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious.” 21-year-old Natalie Mejia was found with over multiple bags of cocaine on the inside of her vehcile Wednesday, March 10th according to Glendale News Press. Natalie Mejica is scheduled to appear at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Glendale on April 15th.

4. Actor Robert Downey Jr. suits up once again to reprise his role in the hotly anticipated summer flick Iron Man 2. The trailer for Iron Man 2 was released earlier in the week. The stars that will be joining Mr. Downey this go-around are Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson Mickey Rourke and Don Cheadle.

3. It’s a story that’s buzzing in the South, but it is rapidly grabbing attention across the country. Itawamba County Agricultural High School refused to let a lesbian student, Constance McMillen , attend the school function with her girlfriend. Constance requested that her date show up wearing a tux. The Itawamba School not only denied the request made by Ms. Mcmillen, but canceled the entire dance altogether.

Here’s what Constance McMillen had to say on the matter:

“All I want is the same chance to enjoy my prom night like any other student. But my school would rather hurt all the students than treat everyone fairly,” McMillen said. “This isn’t just about me and my rights anymore — now I’m fighting for the opportunity of all the students at my school to have our prom.”

2. 80′s star Corey Haim unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday March 9th. TMZ reports that four drugs: hydrocodone (Vicodin), diazepam (Valium), haloperidol (an antipsychotic med) and Soma (a muscle relaxer), contributed to the death of Corey Haim. Haim is probably best known for his film roles the classic vampire flick The Lost Boys and Dream a Little Dream with close friend Corey Feldman.
