Students with high BMI(Body Mass Index) of 30 or higher are required to participate in fitness class three hours a week- that is if they want to graduate. The new rule enforced by Lincoln University has sparked controversy and outrage. Especially among students.
Some students have already expressed their distaste over the new policy. Current Lincoln University student and journalist Tiana Y. Lawson voiced her opinion on the Lincolnian Online.
“I didn’t come to Lincoln to be told that my weight is not in an acceptable range,” Lawson wrote. “I came here to get an education which, as a three-time honor student, is something I have been doing quite well, despite the fact that I have a slightly high Body Mass Index.”
Obesity has become a growing concern in America. Current health stats place America at #1 with 30.6% being overweight according to NationMaster. The risk of Obesity include Diabetes, stroke and even a possible death. To students: Do you agree or disagree with Lincoln University’s new policy? And should all students regardless of BMI participate in a Psychical Education class?

That Joke is Like So 1996
Melissa Joan Heart suffered a bad break this week when she was cut loose from Dancing With the Stars(ABC) on Tuesday. Things couldn’t have gotten worse when her interview with Jimmy Kimmel quickly turned from cute to ugly .
In the video posted, Jimmy makes a lighthearted reference to “magic” (referring to Heart’s days as a witch on the hit comedy Sabrina:The Teenage Witch ) helping Joan Hart throughout the dancing. competition. Clearly Melissa wasn’t too impressed with Kimmel’s commentary responding with a snarly reply “Whoa Whoa ,that joke is like 1996″. Kimmel strikes back “So are you”. Maybe that wasn’t the smartest moves on Melissa’s part and judging by her facial reaction, she realized it.
Comedian Chris Rock is bringing a fresh perspective to the table with his informative and much talked about documentary Good Hair. The film was created to raise awareness about hair-related problems faced in the Black community. When you think about it, it’s almost alarming at how many little girls have perms and other harsh hair care products festered into their hair.
Chris Rock's documentary Good Hair(2009)
It’s not just girls that are having the same problems unfortunately. African American women both teenagers and adults are feeling the sting from products that are supposedly created to “help” hair.
Youtube veterans Lady Fro and Signatureshirtz gave some great insight on their personal experience of using natural products.
The beautiful Lady Fro breaks it down for the ladies with several helpful hair care related products including the Taliah WaaJid and Qhemet.
The stunning Signatureshirtz gives a natural hair care regimen tutorial for the ladies.
In this second video from Signatureshirtz, she expresses her thoughts and concerns on Good Hair.
Signatureshirtz poignant video made a lot of valid points. Are women really afraid to rock what was naturally given to them or is it really about “fitting in” with the general public?
There’s so many things that need to be addressed in Good Hair, but the reality of it, is that it probably won’t be. The main message that will hopefully be brought to light in Rock’s documentary- there is no such thing as good or bad hair.
Are you excited for Good Hair?
Feel free to express your thoughts as to why or why not in the comment section.
I would also love to hear what products you are using to keep your hair healthy as possible.
