Glee Wraps Up First Half of Season 1

Fans say goodbye to Glee until April

Was it just me or were things gleeful than usual on Glee? Nearly weeks of singing their hearts out to famous hits (“Somebody to Love Me”, “Hate on Me”, “Defying Gratify”, and “True Colors”) and an loaded dose of drama-”Sectionals” had arrived. So what did the much hyped about 13th episode bring? Sue is suspended and now is more hellbent then ever. Emma’s been dumped by Ken and quits her job, but in the end shares a romantic kiss with Will. And the kids of Glee win first place at sectionals.

Now with some of the more shocking or not so shocking moments out the way- Let’s discuss the other highlights of last night’s Glee episode.

Likes:

-Lea Michele and Amber Riley, who play Mercedes and Rachel on Glee, gave outstanding performances of Broadway tunes “And I’m Telling You” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade”. The vocal prowess of both ladies are out of this world. No wonder why fans of the show are always pitting Michele and Riley’s voices against one another!

Sue/Will. We always love a good confrontation between the two characters. Sue teasing about Will’s hair was mean and true at the same time.

-Quinn/Puck/Finn drama. Thanks to Rachel(who will be discussed later), Finn found out that he wasn’t the father of Quinn’s child. The situation was handled better than expected. Now that she’s obviously hurt Finn and pushed Puck aside, it’ll be interesting to see how a newly independent Quinn will handle the pregnancy.

-Brittany. Did she really just out her relationship with Santana? And who was she waving at? The few scenes with this character are always entertaining to watch.

-Will/Emma. The final moments shared between these two felt like a ending off of a romantic comedy. Even though you could see the kiss coming a mile away, it still made for an satisfactory closing to tonight’s episode.

Dislikes:

-Rachel. Not the character in general, but her actions displayed Tuesday night. It was commendable of her to admit that she was being selfish in only wanting Finn, but it still wasn’t her place to tell her crush about Puck and Quinn’s relationship.

-Ken/Emma. Ken was notably absent from the episode. Brad Falchuk(Director) missed out on a opportunity for a great scene between the two characters. It would’ve been nice to hear Ken express how he felt before breaking it off with Emma. But maybe if we saw him get emotional, it would’ve cheapen the Will/Emma kiss at the end. No?

What the rest of Season 1 Needs:

-Character Development. We know the backgrounds of Rachel, Finn, Kurt and Quinn, but what about Mercedes, Tina, Artie and the rest of the Glee crew? What are their lives like outside of school?

-Speaking of other characters. Will we hear the singing voices of Brittany, Santana, Mike and Matt? Hopefully now that show’s been picked up for a full season we get to hear what they’re capable of.

That about raps up the recap.

Glee returns to television in April 2010.
