After an extremely long hiatus Glee (Fox) returned to television on Tuesday night. The last time viewers tuned into Glee, the students won Sectionals and also there were blossoming romances and breakups. Hell-O picks up where things last left off. Rachel and Finn are finally a couple, as is Will and Emma. And Sue is already back at work scheming up new ways to destroy the Glee Club.
The positives of last night’s premiere begin with duo of Santana and the dumb witted Brittany. Just friends or romantically involved? Either way the devious Cheerios cheerleaders make a great pairing , and were more than entertaining last night.
Though Rachel can’t win the heart of Finn, she’s managed to find love elsewhere. Jesse (played by Jonathan Groff ) is practically a male version of the show’s over achiever . Both characters seemed to have chemistry on screen and not to mention their voices mesh well together on songs. Plus it’s always good to hear Lea Michele’s soothing voice. Now if only her character was likable as her singing, she’d be perfect.
You can’t talk about Glee without mentioning Sue Sylvester’s name. From blackmailing the Principal Figgins to the awesome rendition of Madonna’s Vogue- actress Jane Lynch continues to make Sue one of the most watchable characters to grace television.
The praise ends there. The relationships on Glee were all over the place. Enough to give anyone a headache. For starters, Finn can’t quite get over the betrayal by ex Quinn and friend Puck. Which seems to have an effect with the so called relationship with Rachel. One minute Finn wants to be with her, the next minute he doesn’t. It’d be nice if he could make up his mind for at least for one episode. Mr. Schuester , who is similar to his student Finn in a lot ways, can’t seem to figure out who he wants to be with either. The writers made him head over heels for the innocent Emma in earlier episodes, and now of a sudden he’s already making out with the Coach (Idina Menzel) of Vocal Adrenaline. Through the all the muddles, it was nice to see writers have Emma acknowledge that a confused Will might not be ready to have a committed relationship just yet.
Tuesday’s Glee was a hit and miss- a mixed bag of goodies. Still, Hell-O managed to bring some memorable lines and fun musical numbers. It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out from here.
