Creator David Simon (The Wire) and Writer/Producer Eric Overmyer (Law and Order)-two men well known for previous works on hit shows are now putting there brains together for one of Sunday’s must watch series-Treme .
On the series opener of Treme, the pilot dealt with the victims of the cataclysmal Hurricane Katrina, and focused heavily on how they are coping. It’s a struggle for the characters, but they are determined to overcome despite all that’s happened to them.
One of Treme’s strongest points was the characterization. You got to hand it to the writers for giving viewers a good feel of each and every charachter on the show. And so far Treme offers an interesting mix of people- The outspoken Creighton Bernette (played by John Good), Antoine Batiste (played by Wendell Pierce) a struggling musician and the optimistic Indian Chief Albert Lambreaux (played by Clarke Peters).
The music and culture was another high in the series opener. The costumes were extravagant and parades and nightclubs always seemed like an event. That alone made want to take a trip to New Orleans and experience it all in person.
Watching the pilot for Treme felt realistic in a lot ways. It didn’t have any over-the-top drama or jaw dropping moments, but it did enough to keep you engaged in what was going on. It felt like watching an TV movie- and maybe it was because of the time length (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes). However, in the end Treme manged to make an good first impression on me and plenty of others as well, because its has already been picked up for a 2nd season. Welcome to TV Treme.
