Well Avatar you had a good run at #1 but it’s like the old saying goes: “Nothing last forever”. This week, the romantic tale Dear John (Screen Gems) knocks Avatar from number one to reclaim the top spot. Dear John opens with $32 million already surpassing its $25 M budget. Dear John stars Hollywood’s rising young actors Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum.
A remarkable 7 weeks at #1, James Cameron’s Avatar (20th Century Fox) slides to the #2 spot. The film however, still holds strong raking in $23 M-almost half of what Dear John made in its opening weekend. To date Avatar has grossed $630 M, officially becoming the highest grossing film worldwide and domestically.
The 2nd newest entry at the box office this week is From Paris With Love (Lionsgate) which sits at #3. With only $8 M earned in its first week, From Paris With Love will have to do wonders in the upcoming weeks-that is if wants to at least cover its $55 M budget.
Falling from 2-4 is Edge of Darkness (Warner Bros.) with $7 M, prompting the kid comedy Tooth Fairy (20th Century Fox) to slip from 4-5 with a cool $6 M.
Kristen Bell’s latest film When in Rome takes a 3 steps down-from 3-6 with $5 M. Meanwhile The Book of Eli ( Warner Bros. ) takes $4 M this week, enough to cover its $80 M budget.
Big buzz for Crazy Heart (Fox Searchlight Pictures) has capitulated it from 14 all the way up to the #8 spot at the box office this week. Screen Gem’s Legion is steadily losing steam fast, after only 3 weeks it falls 6-9 with $3 M. Rounding out the top 10 is Sherlock Holmes (Warner Bros.) with $2 M. After 7 weeks, Sherlock Holmes to date has grossed $200 M.
