#2 Like wife Beyonce Knowles, the year 2009 would be more than kind to rapper Jay-Z. Despite stiff competition from Lil Wayne and Drake, Jay-Z reigned supreme in Hip-Hop. It began when the the Brooklyn Rapper unleashed “D.O.A(Death of Autotune)” from the “Blueprint 3″, the murderous rap track caused quite a stir on the blogosphere and within the Rap community. Then there was “Run This Town” with good friends Rihanna and Kanye West. The track was a crossover success for Carter. Not to long after Jay-Z would have a third hit on his hands-the New York anthem “Empire State of Mind”. Together with Jay-Z’s flow and Alicia Key’s powerful hook on the chorus, the song skyrocketed to #1 with a 5 week run.
#1 Music lost one of its most prized artist. The legendary Michael Jackson had passed at the age 51. The shy singer and humanitarian was in the business for nearly 4 decades. And was the most successful member in the Jackson Family. Michael Jackson entertained millions worldwide with his music and impressive footwork. Not to mention a slew of timeless music videos and tours-He was undoubtedly “The King of Pop”. Michael was supposed to take part in what was supposed to be his final tour. Luckily, there was enough rehearsal footage captured for a documentary. The music extravaganza “This Is It” opened at #1 at the box office, and reminded so many out there why Michael was one of music’s best.
